IDMonSite – Maurizio Fermeglia

Date/Time
July 7, 2020
15:00 - 16:00 CEST/CET

With the corona pandemic, disruption and social distancing have brought previously unimaginable progress in digitization and online communication. At the same time, however, the containment measures imposed have completely changed the course of many events. This also applies for the EuroScience Open Forum (ESOF) 2020 taking place in Trieste, Italy. On the effects of the corona crisis on the development of the forum we will talk with Maurizio Fermeglia, Full Professor at and former rector of the University of Trieste.

This year’s edition of the EuroScience Open Forum was recently rescheduled from 5–9 July to 2–6 September 2020 due to ongoing restrictive measures adopted in the last months. Bringing together over 4 500 leading thinkers, innovators, policy makers, journalists and educators from more than 90 countries, the ESOF 2020 represents a unique interdisciplinary scientific exchange.

What does the unexpected overall reorganization of such large-sized, pan-European event entail? What is the role of scientific research and innovation and how (non-)relevant are they in the post-corona times? And, finally, what consequences will the corona have on science and green policies in Europe and beyond?
