Joining Forces for Research on Migration in Central Europe

Migration and asylum policies have become emotionally loaded subjects that decision-makers either avoid them and hope that they will solve themselves or use them to achieve their political goals without offering sustainable solutions. Too rarely do they listen to practitioners and academia to get a full overview of the status quo.

To facilitate communication among these different groups and to connect researchers working on migration in Central Europe, the Institute for Central Europe, based in Bratislava, Slovakia organised a conference on “European Asylum Policy after Ukraine” on 12-13 July. The conference was part of ACRONYM, a Horizon Europe project on migration and asylum implemented by the Institute for Central Europe in cooperation with the University of Paris and the University of Liège.

The IDM was represented by Research Associate Malwina Talik, who in her presentation “Refugees (un)welcome” analysed the response to the crises on the Poland-Belarus and Poland-Ukraine borders and drew recommendations to improve the effectiveness of asylum policies in CEE.
