Sophia Beiter interviewed in Die Presse about Bulgaria’s new foreign policy

Research Associate Sophia Beiter was interviewed by Die Presse on why Bulgaria stopped the supply of weapons to Ukraine, and on how Bulgaria’s new foreign policy under Prime Minister Radev could look like.

Beiter stated that Bulgaria cannot afford to block joint decisions on EU level and that Radev will most likely focus on internal issues like the fight against corruption —promised to his voters during the election campaign. At the same time, Beiter also highlighted that Radev has been known for his Eurosceptic and pro-Russian statements in the past, and that it cannot be excluded that Bulgaria will shift towards a more disruptive stance on EU level in the mid-term.
