Parliamentary Elections in Moldova 2025
Date/Time

IDM Seminar Room, Hahngasse 6/Mezzanin/17, A-1090 Vienna & online

On 28 September 2025, voters in the Republic of Moldova will go to the polls in what may prove to be one of the country’s most consequential elections since independence. The stakes are high: Will Moldova stay the course towards EU membership, or could a shift in power reverse years of progress?
Since the pro-European Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) won the last election, Moldova has taken bold steps towards joining the European Union – gaining candidate status in 2022, opening accession negotiations in 2024, and recently enshrining EU membership in its constitution through a narrowly passed referendum.
Yet, Moldova remains deeply vulnerable. Russia continues to exert influence through disinformation, electoral interference, and the unresolved conflict in Transnistria. At home, the government faces mounting challenges: tackling corruption, accelerating economic reforms, and meeting the high expectations of its citizens.
Can PAS secure another mandate to drive forward the European agenda? Or will Eurosceptic forces gain traction, potentially altering Moldova’s trajectory and reshaping the EU’s relationship with Chișinău?
