Professor for Forest Ecosystem Management
Hubert Hasenauer, born in 1962, worked for 5 years as forest manager of the federal forest company. After his master and PhD, both in Forestry, he worked for three years in the USA and Finland as a Fullbright and Schrödinger Scholar before he was appointed as Professor and head of the Institute of Silviculture at BOKU. His scientific interests are forest management, ecosystem modelling, and the role of forests in the global carbon cycle. He published more than 270 scientific papers, mainly in peer-reviewed journals. He was the chairman of the scientific advisory board of the European Forest Institute, the chief-editor of Forest Ecology & Management and the associate editor of the Canadian Journal of Forest Science. Currently he is the editor of the Austrian Journal of Forest Science.
Hubert Hasenauer is the President of the Austrian-Africa UniNet, the vice-president of ICA, the network of the 60 European Life Science Universities, and the vice-president of the Austrian Forestry Association. For 7 years, he chaired the academic BOKU Senat and from February 2018 to January 2022 he served as Rector of BOKU. Since February 2022, he has been Professor for Forest ecosystem Management.
