Meeting with Andreas Weichert, Director for Eastern Europe and Eurasia at Global Affairs Canada

On June 6, 2025, Andreas Weichert, Director for Eastern Europe and Eurasia at Global Affairs Canada, visited the IDM, accompanied by Stefanie von Westarp, Counsellor and Andrea Wolf-Cizek, Senior Political & Public Affairs Officier, both from the Canadian Embassy in Vienna.  

During the meeting with IDM Director Sebastian Schäffer and Research Associate Péter Techet, discussions centered on the current political situation in the Western Balkans, with a particular focus on EU integration. Schäffer and Techet gave an overview of the IDM’s work and shared their analysis of recent developments in the region.  

The conversation also touched on transatlantic relations and Canada’s engagement in Eastern and Southeastern Europe.  

We look forward to cooperating with the Canadian Ministry of Global Affairs and the Canadian Embassy in Vienna.
