Times of Insecurity and Transformation: Regional and Youth Perspectives on Europe’s Future

  • Editors: Melanie Jaindl & Daniel Martínek
  • Issue: 1-2/2024

This issue of the journal Der Donauraum presents the results of the Young Scholars Forum 2022 in Vienna and the 18th DRC Summer School 2023 in Cluj-Napoca. In their introduction, Melanie Jaindl and Daniel Martínek reflect on their overall impressions of both formats as well as the challenges of successfully implementing them under the current geopolitical conditions.

Der Donauraum 1-2/2024 brings together contributions that reflect the thoughts and research interest of young researchers in and from the region. These include Diana Ignácová, Renáta Machová and Tibor Zsigmond, who have been investigating generation-specific attitudes towards workplace discrimination in Slovakia. Boryana Stancheva has been researching liberal democracy deficits in post-communist EU member states. The authors also look beyond the EU, such as Anita Andreeva Dangova in her paper on the economic and geopolitical security of the Western Balkans, and Jakub Stepaniuk in his analysis on the EU sanctions regime and how it was accepted in Serbia.

With contributions by Melanie Jaindl, Daniel Martínek, Diana Ignácová, Renáta Machová, Tibor Zsigmond, Boryana Stancheva, Anita Andreeva Dangova and Jakub Stepaniuk.
