Conference: Central European Perspectives on Migration

The Austrian and Hungarian Bureau of the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung invited our assistant editor Melanie Jaindl to their conference “Central European Perspectives on Migration” in Szeged, Hungary, from November 16-18, 2022. Together with other experts and stake holders in the field, she discussed the future of European Migration and Asylum Policy and participated in a panel on the EU’s New Pact on Migration and Asylum. Her key input included the importance to not mix the concepts of migration and asylum, as well as stressing the absence of integration and inclusion in current debates and policy proposals that deal with these issues. A glimpse of her personal perception regarding asylum and refugees in Europe can be found in the upcoming Info Europa: Über Leben entlang der Donau (3/2022).

Part of the conference was also an excursion to the Hungarian-Serbian border fence in Rözske (see photos).
