General Elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina

On Sunday, 2 October 2022, the ninth general elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina will take place. Already the multicultural, multiethnic, and multireligious nature of the country provides a space for sociopolitical conflicts and frictions. Against the background of historical revisions and ongoing conflicting political landscape, the pre-election situation in the country emerges to be shaped by various domestic as well as external factors. Competition amongst both global players and regional actors is mirrored in the social and political constellation across the population and politicians. What are the main elements and key issues of this year’s general elections? What role do the EU, the Russian Federation and the conflict in Ukraine play in the election campaign, and how will the sociopolitical future of Bosnia and Herzegovina look like after the elections? Distinguished experts from different fields of expertise come together to find answers to these questions and to discuss the pre-election situation in the country.
