Central European response to COVID-19 and the consequences of the pandemic in the Visegrad countries will be the topics of our next IDMonSite live talk with Kinga Brudzińska, Head of Future of Europe Programme at the GLOBSEC Policy Institute in Bratislava.

The far-reaching measures against the spread of the coronavirus introduced also in the Visegrad countries are currently about to ease and everyday life of citizens is returning to a (new) normal. However, the declared states of emergency have affected the socio-political environment to varying degrees, just as a more nation-based response to the pandemic as well as the initial underestimation of the situation by the European Union has changed the people’s perception towards individual governments.

How did the pandemic affect the Central European Region socio-politically? Has the image of the European Union among the population really been damaged? How is the contested (non-)declaration of a state of emergency in Hungary and Poland perceived within the EU and to what extent will the current crisis shape the future goals and cooperation of the Visegrad Group?
