We will take a closer look to the actual situation in Albania, a country that has been – before the global Covid-19 crisis – hit by an enormous earthquake in November 2019 and later by another one in January 2020. The EU has promised a support of 1 billion EUR for the reconstruction and showed to be prepared for starting the EU negotiations with Albania and North Macedonia. However, one outcome of the Western Balkan Summit under Croatia’s EU Presidency on May 6, was the proclamation of the European perspective, and not explicitly enlargement relating to this region.

We appreciate to talk with Ms. Rudina Lula, Expert on EU integration with more than 12 years of experience, about her engagement in this context, about the public opinion and people’s perceptions of the EU in Albania. How does the population and concretely the youth cope with all the actual challenges? What might be to expect regarding travel regulations, socio-economic developments and finally the EU integration of this country?
