Our trainees are treated on equal footing from the very first day of their traineeship. We show them how a regional think tank functions and provide them with tasks that challenge them, but also let them grow professionally. depending on their interests and language skills they are involved in different areas ranging from publications and events to digital communication and PR. We are genuinely interested in their opinions and perspectives, which you can often hear/read in our formats.

We host several trainees per year and also offer the possibility to conduct research for their university degree. Since 2016 we are a host organisation within the EU4EU programme. We cooperate with various other universities and function as a residency institute for students of Institute for Peace Research and Security Policy of the Hamburg University.

We are open to candidates from other institutions as well. Please send your CV, preferred time for the traineeship (due to the high demand note that at least 6 months before the planned start of the internship) and instead of a cover letter, write (1) How do you match the IDM’s profile? (2) What would you like to achieve in your time at the IDM? (3) Which of our formats and activities are you most interested in and why? Please give us a clear timeframe of your planned traineeship.
