Remembrance Culture and Common Histories in the Danube Region

“The past twenty-five years in Southeastern Europe have witnessed extensive efforts by states, intellectuals, parties and ordinary citizens to re-evaluate, rewrite and revise the past. […] Yet, these new narratives frequently did not serve open and diverse reflection but sought to justify new/old narratives. […] This special issue examines these efforts on three levels: official new narratives, remembrance in popular culture, such as music and film, and larger social processes of identity construction.”

Das vorliegende Heft dokumentiert das „4th Young Scholars‘ Forum on Central and South East Europe“ des IDM, das im November 2014 unter dem Titel “Remembrance Culture and Common Histories in the Danube Region” in Wien stattfand. Die auf der Grundlage eines externen Peer-Review-Verfahrens ausgewählten Beiträge junger WissenschaftlerInnen aus der Region erforschen, wie und unter welchen Vorzeichen sich das Erinnern der Vergangenheit in den letzten 25 Jahren in ausgewählten Ländern des Donauraums änderte und welche möglichen Perspektiven für die Zukunft in einem gemeinsamen Europa daraus entstehen.
