The European Union of today and tomorrow. What kind of reforms does the EU need to successfully face current and future challenges?

The Institutes of Public Affairs,the Institute for the Danube Region and Central Europe in Viennaand the Faculty of Political Science and International Studies of the University of Warsaw are kindly inviting you to an event on the future shape of the European Union.

Discussions on the future of the Union and its institutions are taking place in the member states and at the European forum. Most often, this debate is linked to the question of the next round of enlargement to include new countries such as Ukraine, Moldova or the Balkan states. But also the experience of crises such as the coronavirus pandemic or the even more full-scale war in Ukraine have shown how many difficult challenges the EU faces and how important it is for it to function efficiently. Is a full-blown reform requiring treaty changes necessary or is it better to start with changes like abolishing unanimity voting in the area of foreign policy, for example? What positions do individual countries represent and what interests are behind them, what are the possible alliances for change and is the scenario of staying with the status quo possible? Join us for a debate with eminent experts and a discussion with the audience.
