INVITATION

Danube Salon

As part of the Europa-Forum Wachau 2023, the Donausalon will take place on Friday, June 23rd on the subject
„A NEW COMPASS – WHICH DIRECTION WILL EUROPE‘S SECURITY TAKE?“

This year, the Danube Salon focuses on the topic of Europe’s security and resilience.

In March 2022, the foreign and defence ministers of the 27 member states agreed on a new security policy concept for the EU. The so-called Strategic Compass provides a common view of the security environment as well as threats and challenges to the Union. Endorsed during the European Council in Brussels on 23./24. March 2022, the Heads of State and Government committed to concrete actions to be implemented in the next 5-10 years. Among them a new military intervention force, which is to be operational by 2025, as well as joint defence procurements.

Debates on this issue have been going on for a long time and have become more and more urgent due to the “Zeitenwende” following the unprovoked and unjustified full-scale invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation.

We will discuss with renowned experts about the implications for Europe, the EU and especially the Danube Region along the four pillars of the Strategic Compass: act, invest, partner and secure.

The Danube Salon will conclude with an outlook on the Austrian Presidency of the EUSDR, which will start in November 2023 and also focus on the topics of security and prosperity. Join us for a topical debate on the MS Dürnstein, while we sail along the Danube in the UNESCO World Heritage Site Wachau.
